Happy New Year – Ma'at came into my orbit recently …

Ma'at is the goddess, who personified the ancient Egyptian concepts of:

                  truth,             balance,

                           order,             harmony,

                                             law,                morality,

                   and justice

as well as bringing order to the world from chaos …

Goddess Ma'at

Her roles in reminding us of the necessities of being decent, helping and co-operating with others in 2023 …

... seem to me to be well worth remembering … if only we could pass these ideals across to the many despicable rulers, who seem to want to cause harm to other human beings …

I know we all do what we can to help others … and wish you all a very Happy New Year as 2022 turns into 2023 …

  2. I hereby nominate you, Hilary, for a new position to be created at the United Nations, "Special Ambassador for Human Decency and Respect for All." It is sadly overdue. In the meantime - all the very best for 2023. I hope it will be a fabulous year for you. Hugs - David

  3. I think Ma'at has too many reponsibilities. Just looking after truth and justice across the world would be exhausting enough for one goddess.

It is 2023 here already :)

  4. That's a lot of responsibility and multi-tasking - even for a female deity!
All the best for the coming year.

  10. Wasn’t Ma’at a goddess of justice? I vaguely recall reading that court cases might have been held in her temple? Or was that just a novel?

Anyway, happy New Year to you!

  11. @ Dan - yes you're right there ... live in the moment as best we can for ourselves, family and others - exactly ... lead by example.

@ Rosey - great to see you ... thanks for popping by - I appreciate it!

@ John - lovely to see you ...

@ Sue - yes, I mentioned Justice in the post ... so you're right. I need to look at Greek deities and their history ... and know I must come back to the posts you wrote - probably nearly 2 years ago. This year is my year of reading ... my intention ...

Thanks so much to you all for your Happy New Year wishes ... I do so hope the same for us all, and many downtrodden peoples - it's been great having you around. Cheers Hilary

  16. @ Jacqui - I know ... befuddled is a good word - we need freedom of speech, kindness to others ... but I'll get very muddled - if I go on! Another aspect for you to build in to your clan's storyline ...

@ Jess - thanks ... New Year messages now-a-days seem challenging to be appropriate ... but you've endorsed my thoughts ... while your story telling is always a delight.

@ Diane - thank you ... you too have a healthy year over 'La Manche', while I look forward to your French and SA posts ...

    @ Joanne - thanks ... I can't not be of a positive ilk - it's the only way ...

  28. Firstly, let me apologise for not visiting your blog recently. I always got an email each time you posted, but they stopped arriving and I, therefore, assumed you were taking a break! Wrong!

If only we'd all listen to Ma'at, perhaps she should tap her stick on the ground a little harder!

    Have a wonderful 2023 Hilary.

  29. @ Bish - lovely to see you ... thanks - I thought Ma'at was a good find, albeit she's been there for over 4,000 years, for 2023 and on ...

    @ Michelle - thanks so much ... I'll be over soon ...

@ Keith - yes I know - a number of blogs I follow have fallen off the radar - and I must do something about it ... a couple of bloggers are looking at how they handle their followers - I'll be looking at my own system in about 2 weeks ... i.e. mid January ... and catch people whose blogs I've been missing off my list.

I suspect I'd rather not have the earth moved here - we've enough going on, yet we could do with some of her fairy dust ...

@ Elizabeth - so good to see you - thank you ...

Great to see you all and I do so wish the world will have an easier life ahead - humans can live together: peacefully and happily ... that I wish for. Cheers and Happy New Year - Hilary
