WEP Get Togethers # 2 … winter blues …

February was not the most brilliant – not helped with lots of that wet stuff, excess wind … too many things that could have been done quickly took forever … which frustrates me to say the least, apart from being so time wasting …

It says it all ....
March has come in favouring its name … after the Roman god of War … but that was this morning – this afternoon we have blue skies, big whitish cumulus clouds and some sun – bliss … till more tears drop forth from those towering clouds …

Statue of Mars from the
Forum of Nerva, 2nd C

There's a wormy moon around the 25th March … a way off yet – and who knows what the weather holds or life for that matter … if only … if only … kindness and peace could prevail …

but the days are getting longer and then the northern hemisphere will have its 2024 heyday for that wonderful period of longer days than nights.

I let the worm rest in its blue-cheese delight
I'm feeling the blues … but also feel the shackles are coming off – and easier days loom ahead … I do intend to sort and clear out the flat – last year with the high blood pressure I felt maggoty and didn't feel inspired to do much – also to get posts ready for the blog …

Daffodil - the flower for March
Denise says let us know what's burning in your heart … my desire to leave the claggish congelation behind … and to enjoy March and the year ahead in an easier more settled state of mind …

This is where my brother lives – it's often flooded around there … and they've been without water, not for long thankfully …

Alfriston - where my brother lives,
and where he gave his niece away, when
she married in the summer
That's it for now – I have lots of other posts to write up – more sparkly than this one … but I'm here and posting # 2 for the WEP Get Togethers … happy days to you all …

PS Could someone let me know what 'the C box' is ... Denise asks that we put the link into the C box ... I'm out of it!!! .... thanks!

Sorry you're feeling blue - the weather certainly doesn't help. Today is so changeable but things can only get better:-)

Never heard of a "C" box so sorry no help. I gather french weather is rubbish as well but we are still enjoying long daylight and in Swakopmund perfect temperatures though the wind and the sand can be a bit difficult. Hopefully the weather will improve by the time we get home!!

I have not forgotten your promisd email but the days are still very full!
Cheers Diane

Winter blues are a common problem for those of us in the northern hemisphere. Thankfully, with March comes the promise of spring!

Debbie D. said...

P.S. "C box" surely must be referring to the comment box underneath the blog post?

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Janice - thank you ... just slightly off par ... but as you so rightly say - the weather and daylight can only get better ...

@ Diane - I'm sure you're right to think 'comment' box ... I've done it ... so hope it's the place. Yes, I had a friend who's just been over to Paris - and he said it was pretty cold and grotty ...

Swakopmund - I've never been down there ... been to Windhoek and up the Skeleton Coast ... so I'm just remembering those days; also a friend's just come back from the Okavango, and another is about to go to the Cape ... so I'll have some tangible stories to dwell on ... and have a drink over!

No worries re the time frame of an email ... I always love being in touch, yet understand time constraints ... I must get my act into gear here ... hopefully it will happen. Great to see you ...

@ Debbie - oh I can believe that in Canada - the seasons are slightly different to those here ... they were shorter, harsher or hotter ... so I'm quite glad to be here where life ticks along ...

I think you're right re the C box ... as comments - I've done that ... but I'd like confirmation!

Cheers to the three of you ... one from Namibia taking me back to happy memory days! Thanks from here as another storm piles across! Take care - Hilary

Wormy and maggoty are words that I do not see very often, but they are readily understandable :)

I find the lighter nights always lift my mood and that’s definitely starting to happen now!

Hey Hilary,

The C-box is the Chat-Box on the side panel of the WEP website. Folks who are having a problem with the regular comment boxes are asked to post there with comments and links. You're fine if you don't use it. It's found after the WEP HOW-TO POSTS, 2023 but before the picture of the beautiful lady's eye, all done in blue - called Where We Get Our Images. Again all located on the right side of the regular WEP Post.
C stands for Chat. LOL I hope that helps!

Otherwise, it's the Winter blue season, quickly to lift as the sun stays up longer and Spring fever arrives. Really looking forward to the Spring fever this year!!!

Sending love and hugs!!!

Hi Susan,

I loved reading your post about how you cope with the winter blues. You have some great tips on how to stay positive and motivated during the cold and dark months. I especially liked your idea of having a get-together with other bloggers and writers.

I have a similar strategy that works for me. I join online communities and forums related to my niche and interests. I find that interacting with like-minded people online helps me feel less isolated and more inspired. I also learn a lot from their experiences and insights.

Have you tried joining any online groups or communities? If not, I highly recommend it. You might find some new friends and collaborators there.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom and warmth with us.

Cheers,

Esperanza

It's nice that the days are getting longer. Winter seems to be loosening its grip.

Hi Hilary,
It is so nice of you to join the WEP get together despite how you've been feeling. I hear you about the winter blues. Delhi doesn't get very cold but nobody likes the grey skies for months together. I love the way you do your posts with a poetic flair and pictures a d take us through your journey. I wish you a lovely spring and summer.

I haven't heard of a wormy moon before. February's full moon was called a "snow moon." It was bright and beautiful. I hope you don't suffer from the blues much longer, dearest Hilary.

Love,
Janie

I hope you guys soon get some sunshine! I heard from my family in Holland that they had heaps of rain and are sick of it. we just started autumn but we still have summer weather most of the time. Your brother lives in a nice place A shame of the flooding

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Hels – a Wormy moon – first time I'd heard of it, but the word maggoty I quite often use … and as you say say totally understandable …

@ Anabel – in Scotland you must really enjoy the longer days – as you say 'our spirits are lifted' …

@ Yolanda – oh thanks for the definitive meaning about the C-box … tells you I'm completely out of the social media information loop. I will be completely fine – as I won't be using it!! Just glad to know I can ignore …

Yes – me too … I'm looking forward to Spring fever springing forward … but now will enjoy that journey to longer days …

@ Esperanza from The Blog 101 Team – it's good to read about your coping skills … so much to learn. As I've been blogging, and only blog, for over fifteen years … I'm fine, thank you.

@ Liz – winter does seem to be loosening its grip, yet there's always an extra chill to come along …

@ Sonia – thanks … I've enjoyed the WEP experience. I imagine Delhi has very different weather to ours here in the UK .

Thank you too for the compliment re the blog … and yes – let's all have peaceful happier Springs and Summers …

@ Janie – nor had I heard about a Wormy moon … funny old name – an American one!! Certainly on a couple of clear nights the moon was very silvery (snowy white). I'm fine – just sluggish in many things – but that's easing.

@ Marja - oh yes some days with a bit more sunshine would be just wonderful. You'll know from your family in Holland how 'dreadful' the weather seems to have been this year … so, so wet! Alfriston is a picturesque village – which has over the years regularly flooded – cars floating in the street sometimes.

Thanks everyone – it is getting lighter … a bit more sun, and if the wind would soften up – I'd be happier … cheers to you all and thanks for visiting … Hilary

I am very sorry to hear that you are feeling less that sparkling, Hilary, and I hope that your mood improves quickly. I have just returned from my sixth visit to Cuba and I am in very high spirits and were it possible to share them with you a very high dollop would be ladled your way. Thanks for the delicious word maggoty. I shall have to find a way to use it. Hugs from Ontario - David

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi David - just 'off' ... but overall fine and the Spring weather is definitely helping, as too throwing off the blues. I've seen that you're back from Cuba - a place you love ... with great friends to look after you and your group when you arrive: no wonder you're in such high spirits. I'm less maggoty than I was ... cheers and thanks for your support - Hilary

Hi Hilary! Thanks for your thoughtful post even though you feel rotten. But better days ahead! Funny to hear everyone moaning about cold, snowy, wintry weather when Down Under we're sweltering and experiencing bushfires, floods and cyclones. Ha. We're in autumn now but it doesn't cool off until the end of March. Phew.

I just know March is going to be better for you. Can't wait to hear your April news!

Annalisa Crawford said...

You cannot throw the phrase 'wormy moon' into the mix without further explanation! As someone who's been plagued with moth larvae recently, I have a creepy crawly vision.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Denise - I feel ok ... but only ok - now feeling better ... so let's hope this 'thing' whatever it is has all but gone. Yes - I know I read about the weather happenings in places around the world ... when I came back here ... I was grateful to get away from the 'very' hot summers of South Africa - only to hit a pretty good summer here! But I'm glad I'm home and in a more temperate climate ... I hope your weather cools a little ...
Yes - I'm working on an April post - well thinking about it!

@ Annalisa - Wormy moon came from the American Farmer's Almanac (I think) - but I'd not come across that description before and seeing as I was feeling maggoty - it seemed to slot into my post quite easily!

Oh moth eruptions ... how very difficult ... I hope you can get rid of them easily, or at least encourage them elsewhere ... I worry about them here sometimes ...

Cheers to you both - take care and here's to our Spring!! - Hilary

I'm feeling bluey too. Two days or warmth and sun only make the next 5 wet and dreary days seem worse. Wishing you some sunshine and energy to do the clearing out.

Hope you are having better weather and the blues are gone. It is hard when there's tons of rain and wind and the weather isn't great. Sending hugs!

I'm sorry to hear you haven't felt well. Recover from and adjusting to the high blood pressure [med] can take a bit of time. I hope you start feel better and in the pink soon.

PS: My blog feed has changed.

Spring should help boost your mood. Where I live, the flowers are already blooming.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Susan - oh dear I hope you're feeling easier - I must say I seem to be coming round to feeling much more livelier. We're having mixed bags of weather at the moment - but the sun is reaching higher into the sky and it's lighter ... bliss!

@ Jess - yes thankfully I am feeling happier (i.e. easier) and will be hitting the better times very soon ... ie getting to grips with life ... any hugs gratefully received and returned very happily!

@ Holly - it's just the times I think ... but life is getting better: thankfully. The high blood pressure is under control ... so now it's just fully getting out of the blue winter reason - nearly there.

Thanks re your note on the blog feed - I'd noticed ... something else I have to catch up with.

Cheers and thanks for all your thoughts and care - Hilary

Oh dear, I understand a slump. I've been remiss in commenting. Sorry. I've been to PA - moved my dad (92) to assisted living. Gosh - tough after 64 years in his home that we kids grew up in (dangling participle). Anyway- I've been distracted and sad and depressed...on and on. Let's get out of our slump together.
Weather in Tx has been rather nice. I've sat on the patio and read. All good.
I shall head back to PA to do clean out (OMG) and get ready for sale.
Wow - growing old kinda sucks (pardon the language)

Cheers my friend. I hope your weather gets sunny and you are of good cheer. Hang with a friend or two and have some laughs. That helps a lot.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Joanne - oh dear ... I'm sorry, yet relieved to hear this news ... always so difficult and I do hope your Dad eases in and is reasonably settled soon. I think you have other siblings up in PA and he has friends who will visit often. 64 years is amazing - you all must have many happy memories of the house and times there - with thoughts.

I'm glad you had that brief break back home in TX before setting out again for PA and the clean out etc ... so much goes through one's mind at times like these. We did Mum's down in Cornwall with my SIL overseeing my other brother and I ... I brought mostly books back here - the poor car was weighted down.

I feel for you ... yes growing old is challenging for most of us in different ways ... but we're lucky to be growing old and still around - even in this 'odd' time of the world.

Good idea - actually thankfully I do get out and about and have a laugh ... all helps ... as too blogging friends. With thoughts to you and yours - take care ... sent with hugs - Hilary

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Sherry - yes Spring and the lighter longer days are definitely helping - as too the flowers and blossoms ...

@ Lee - I agree - the blues don't and won't last ...as you mention the daffodils are starting to bloom - bliss time ahead.

Thanks so much to you two - no spam for a while - yet both yours went in that direction and I only just picked them up - such is life!!

Cheers Hilary

My February was awful for a number of reasons unrelated to the weather, which was lovely all month here in Mexico. I'm glad for March simply because it signified the end of February.

Yes, winter over here has been pretty wild at times, but thankfully nothing damaging around our neck of the woods. I have heard of the flooding in the UK though, and am looking forward to longer days and being able to get out in the yard again.

Sorry you haven't been feeling well, Hils. I hope your upcoming days are filled with sunshine, blue skies and happiness. Cheers,

Winter can be depressing, especially in far northern regions. In India, during winter, daylight hours aren't as short as in northern Europe or the US, so it's okay. On the other hand, summers here are quite bad.

mail4rosey said...

"till more tears drop forth from those towering clouds…" What a pretty way to describe the rain. We've had quite a bit of it here, but there's a pretty blue sky out right now. We don't have the lovely, fat Cumulus Clouds out today that you've described, but rather the wispy Cirrus variety. Still and the same, I'll take it! Way better than the rain clouds that dominated yesterday. And I'm on vacation this week, so life is dreamy, rain or shine. :)

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Karen - sorry to note your February was awful - being in Mexico I guess the weather is usually pretty good ... but things still go wrong - and trip us up: glad it's now March.

@ Ian - I've seen the odd photo from blogging friends in and around Vancouver or its Island - I'm glad you escaped, except the raccoon. Flooding has gone down, but the rain is still around and Mother's Day wasn't up to much weather-wise down here ... nearly yard time for you.

@ Sandra - I have to gear myself up ... and get going - I hope I can do that now ...

@ Pradeep - yes I can't imagine your summers ... very sticky and warm - but the mountains: cool for those who can escape towards them. The sooner the sun comes out here - I will rejoice!

@ Rosey - good to see you ... rain always pours out somehow - today we have misty rain! But when the sun does come it's gorgeous - but like you the cirrus clouds are gorgeous to see whipping across the blue skies. As you say still and the same for each continent.

Enjoy your week off - those days are blissful ... I'm looking forward to some of those come the better weather times!

Cheers to you all - I hope to get out of the blues this week ... Hilary

Hi, Hilary - I am so sorry that February found you blue. I hope that the remainder of March is much, much better for you.
You know, I had never heard of 'wormy moon' before - sometimes I swear that I live under a rock. I ALWAYS learn something new from your posts!

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Donna - suddenly remembered I hadn't replied to your comment - I'm coming up for air in March ... so the winter blues seem to be evaporating - just another cold weekend upon us! Still warmer days are not far away ...

I only came across Wormy Moon just before, or possibly as, I was writing the post - just made a fun addition to my maggoty time!

Great to see you and to have your comments - cheers Hilary
