We Are the World Blogfest ... # 16 - Justice, Equality and Sustainability ...

Palewell Press - an independent publisher has as its tag line the title of this post ... Justice, Equality and Sustainability ...

So a brief foray to introduce you to them ... an appropriate publisher at this time ... which features narrative poetry on relevant subjects ...

- the land: the future of the British landscape in the wake of investigating the past;

- abuse: being protected from it and injustice;

- authors: who have something important to share;

- refugees: who write or have their story written into books;

The book of poems I bought:
The Soil Never Sleeps

The titles of the publications ... range wide, evocatively and enticingly asking me to tick the 'to buy list', for now a wish list ... I set out a few titles:

Travelling East by Road and Soul by Camilla Reeve ... a longitude journey ...

Travels of a Spider by Camilla Reeve ... on human rights, war, the environment ...

Tutu's Rainbow World - selected poems ...

Three days in Damascus -
a Memoir by Kim Schultz
The Soil Never Sleeps - poetry from the pasturelands of Britain ... which was the publication that I was introduced to when a blogger was referencing that her blog was going into permanent slumber mode … but the soil never does …

Having found Palewell Press ... and seeing their Webpage and services - I am hooked.  I bought the Soil Never Sleeps collection for myself and for the cow farming family out here ... but feel sure you will find publications to draw you in ...

Tiger and Clay - Syria fragments
by Rana Abdulfattah

Camilla has a video introduction on how Palewell Press came into being ... included in the media page ...

Palewell Press - Human Rights Publisher ...not a commercial publisher … there are four categories used on the Welcome to our On-line Bookstore …

Refugees, Human Rights, Third World …

Climate Change, Environment, Nature …

Mental and Physical Health …

Social and Personal History …

I hope you'll enjoy looking through, but also remember this small independent press ... and at some stage support them ...

We are the World - In Darkness Be Light

PS I've got some new system bits ... so this is a bit of muddle - I'm scrapping to find my way to doing things easily!!  I hope I can get it sorted soon - techie stuff ... can be troubling!!

What a WONDERFUL mantra to live by.
Thank you for introducing me to publishers who focus on issues which are hugely important to me. I hope they, and their authors, do very, very well. Survive and thrive.

Thanks EC - I'm sure Camilla and her authors will be really chuffed to see your comment - they deserve a lot of support and encouragement .. though she seems to have created a niche market for her books and publications ... which is great to know about. I'm so pleased I heard about the press and was able to purchase 'The Soil Never Sleeps' as well as now put up an article on the blog ... cheers Hilary

How wonderful! It's rare for a company to embody such high ideals in today's world, and by doing so, it can truly make a difference. Thanks for letting us know about this publishing company. I looked at the website briefly, but I'll browse through the book list later.

Cheers! Have a super weekend.

Hi Hilary! So lovely of you to introduce us to a human-rights publisher. I will look more closely into Palewell Press.

Hope all is well with you,

Newly returned from our holiday in Cornwall and inspired to read and write once again, I was so pleased to find this link on your blog Hilary! Thank you X

Refugees, Human Rights, Third World?? I feel so grateful that all our families arrived safely in the New World while refugees were still being protected and given safe haven.

Now it is too late. Today's refugees face being turned back to their own brutal nations, sunk in tiny boats sea or imprisoned behind barbed wire in small Pacific Islands.

Refugees who write or have their story written into books should be mandatory reading for school and uni students.

Thank you for introducing us to this publisher Hilary - it's great to see how many ethical companies are coming to the fore in these times after I'm sure years of struggling to keep going. I'll definitely buy something from her.

What a delight to be introduced to this publishing press Hilary - right up my alley! I enjoyed listening to interview about her beginnings, and exploring the titles available. Now I've got my own list, and look forward to purchasing a number of the poetry books. Thanks for sharing this treasure with us.

I like publishers who focus on a topic (like this one) so it's easy to find what you're looking for. Kudos to small presses!

very interesting post and so much awareness for needs in this world - sharing the light. I love knowing that there is so much good out there and it's working to teach, enlighten, and fix problems. Thanks for sharing this information.
(and techie stuff, alas, is the darkness. Good luck finding the light and key)

@ Susan - oh great: that you looked through their site - their ethos just so resonated with me ... and I must get some more of their titles. Enjoy the browsing ...

@ Denise - it was a fortunate introduction for me ... and I knew I needed to pass on the information of their publications and ideals: WAWTB is the perfect route ...

@ Deborah - I saw you'd returned from 'my county' - and it'll be good to read your stories of life on the blog. I know you'll enjoy their offerings ...

@ Hels - yes those of us who live in safety and peace are so lucky. Unfortunately life doesn't seem to change ... war, disputes, tragedy, human suffering continue on ...

We need to know and understand what is happening ... I hope I have some idea, but so many have absolutely no idea and cannot seem to position themselves in another person's shoes ... to comprehend the mental torture of others' lives ...

@ Fil - Camilla has a very good introductory video, while there are audio files from her authors ... as well as the actual books; and from what I can see has a wide and varied audience sharing her views ... Excellent to know you'll be over to support her.

@ Deborah - how how wonderful you listened to her interview about how she started the press, and looking at the titles available ... poetry, I know, is special to many a bloggers heart, so it's good to know you'll be purchasing a few of the books.

@ Jacqui - Camilla certainly seems to have found a very important niche for us to tap into - and as you say kudos to her for following her passion ...

@ Joanne - thanks so much - it seems to fit the 'We Are The World blogfest' criteria - I've been wanting to put a post up for ages. Then I chose a time when the mechanics of techie stuff slightly changed here ... I'm on the right track thankfully - just need to tie up the loose ends.

So good to see you all - and I'm delighted you're all interested in the titles available at Palewell Press's site - and I hope you'll listen to some of the poetry recordings, interviews etc ... as well as buy some of the books the site offers.

Take care and enjoy the weekend - cheers Hilary

A human rights publisher... this is a first for me. Thanks for sharing about Palewell Press and their ideology which is so very needed these days. More power to them!!

Fabulous introduction to what looks like some inspiring reads that I am off to check out. Thanks Hilary. I wish you had share buttons on your blog. :)

Sounds like a worthy publisher.

You've been very busy with the books, Hilary! I've started reading the one which came in the mail. I like some of the titles you've highlighted, but haven't heard of the author, so you've introduced us to some new reading material. Hope all is going well!

Patsy said...

'The Soil Never Sleeps' is a great title, and rather a nice thought.

Rhodesia said...

Another interesting post and something to look further into. Thanks Hilary. Have a good week Diane

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Shilpa - good to see you ... and you're right ... I hadn't realised that there were no specific human rights' publishers - so Palewell Press really has found an excellent niche. I too hope they continue on their upward trajectory for spreading their beliefs and allowing others to do the same ...

@ Debby - that's great - I know you're a prolific reader ... so it'll be good to know you'll be finding out more ...

@ Liz - they are opening doors for poets and authors and people who want to spread hope ...

@ DG - I do seem to have got myself 'engaged' with rather a lot of books recently. So glad you've started reading the one I sent you - I'm waiting for my copy to arrive. The authors here are new authors with an important word or collaborative ideas that can reach a wider audience through Palewell Press.

@ Patsy - yes the title hooked me in too - particularly as the narrative poems in it are set in four farms - in Cornwall, Wales, Yorkshire, and Kent ... so stretch across our little England. It's a fascinating collaborative story ...

@ Diane - thanks ... Palewell Press has some interesting audios, videos and then the important books ...

Cheers to you all - thanks for being interested ... these authors all deserve our attention ... enjoy looking through the media section for clips to listen to or watch - Hilary

How wonderful to advocate for justice, equality and sustainability through publishing.

So glad you found a publisher you like. The book you wrote about a few posts earlier that caught my attention: Circling The Midnight Sun arrived in my mailbox yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading it.

T. Powell Coltrin said...

You always put together the best and most informative posts! Thank you.

I am always concerned about those who struggle in this world. I feel that human, animal and earth struggle because of people. In other words, are we our own worst enemy? Yes. We hurt or neglect each other and animals because we don't care what happens, or we would have to do something to change it. We hurt the Earth because we're lazy and entitled. Wow that all sounds harsh doesn't it? Things would be different for everyone if we all practiced kindness and responsibility.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Sandra - I agree I was really pleased to be directed towards their site. Some wonderful titles in there ...

@ Inger - oh that's great that you've got Circling the Midnight Sun - it's a really interesting book - and with your Scandinavian roots ... you'll appreciate it a lot. It's the Canadian bit I need to re-read. I'm looking forward to seeing and listening to more of Palewell Press's audio and video clips from their site ...

@ Teresa - it's a pleasure ... I enjoy writing posts up that I know readers will appreciate ...

This site - seems to offer so much - and I like the turn of phrase 'authors who have important things to share' - are given a voice through the site ... be it audio, video or print ...

Thanks so much for visiting and for noting this site for future reference ... Palewell Press seems to me to be an important publishing and informative site for us to refer to ... cheers Hilary

How exciting to find a press dedicated to publishing books that focus on sustainability and living in harmony with our world, instead of pillaging it. They should be supported. I'm on my way to see their selection. Thank, Hilary.

@ Lee - how lovely to see you and I'm delighted you'll be looking closely at their site and thus choices of media available. Glad you're considering supporting them ...

So lovely to see more of you here - and to appreciating the values Palewell Press holds dear ... here's to supporting them. Cheers - Hilary

I love all of these, which we all live by, but my fave is the quote on abuse, which you know is my platform. No one should ever be subjected to it in any form. Great words of wisdom! Hugs...RO

Sherry Ellis said...

I like that this publisher is putting out human rights books. I'll have to read some of them.

Sandra Cox said...

I wonder if any of these books are used in English Lit classes.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ RO - 'abuse' of any sort is a horrible thing to happen - and I absolutely agree no one should be subjected to it ... the books all look so inspiring ... enjoy them ...

@ Sherry - thanks - I was really pleased to find out about Palewell Press - that's great you'll be reading some of them ...

@ Sandra - I'm sure once the word gets out ... some enlightened teachers and/or sponsors will encourage these books to be read ... I feel certain their audience will grow.

Thanks so much for being interested ... this publisher seems to have hit home for many of us ... I too look forward to reading more of their works - cheers Hilary

Palewell Press sounds like my new favorite publisher! I will have to read one of their books soon. They are not all available on Kindle but Three days in Damascus is so I'll target that one first.

Thank you for introducing them to us, Hilary. The titles sound intriguing and the publisher's tagline excellent.
