Lenny Lee's turned 24 …

I expect and hope many of you remember Lenny from days of yore … he and I keep in touch …

Lenny Lee's world
He was always brilliant for my mother – she loved all the prezzies he sent her … and enjoyed the repartee he gave us …

It was back in 2011 that many of us wrote a cheering post for him … as he was at the start of a loooong journey – still continuing today …

Hardwick, Muddy Hippo, Zdena

and from me came, in 2012, another earworm (after my Phantom earworm) … Mud, Mud Glorious Mud by Flanders and Swann ...

he then sent us Muddy Hippo, while later in 2012, after my mother had died, Hardwick joined in for Lenny's 13th birthday …

Lots of choice

then Zdena joined the party at the end of my Aspects of British Cookery …

Cheese and Wine

So please from all around the world wish Lenny an easier time ahead … apparently a friend came round for (what I call supper!) dinner, with some Chinese dishes, together with some vino … I'm sure they enjoyed themselves ...

Damyanti's book arrived a day early ...
Diaghilev's post still being worked on ... there's
a Finnish connection

My next post will not contain an earworm … and will be on Diaghilev … all things being considered …

Z is for Zdena … the follower of Bacchus, the wine god …

Lenny Lee – Fest … Spreading sunshine for him …

Hardwick's Nose … he smelt a Birthday Party – Hardwick doesn't miss much! …

Zdena - very cheerful, Hardwick ... really
wanting to sleep - he's a very old boy now -
getting on for 100 I think ... while
Muddy Hippo just makes a mess!!

I just remembered - Lenny won a WEP prompt back in June 2022 - which explains his situation a little ... a boy who grieves for the sudden loss of his mother ... a poignant letter ...

It doesn't matter how old we are, expressions of friendship and love are always wonderful. Parties, presents, home visits, dinners, trays of small cakes etc.

My birthday is coming up next month and I would really love to receive a double ticket for a ship cruise, if you could do it :)

Most of this post is a mystery to me but many thanks for filling my mind with mud, glorious mud. It's in my ears and rapidly making its way into my brain as I write this!

A very happy birthday to Lennie. It is always a delight to see a comment from him.
And I too have Mud, Mud, glorious mud stuck in my brain - and hopefully cooling my blood.

I remember reading all of those post by Lennie many years ago but I wasn't sure what was behind them. At one time I thought it was an adult hiding behind a persona! I still don't know anything but I wish him a Happy Birthday!

@ Hels - I agree ... it's fun to have birthdays ... this was at the Nursing Centre, which I continued to visit after my mother had passed on. If I could manage a double ticket for a ship cruise ... I'd happily send it on ... sorry - still saving!!

@ John - I love the Mud Mud Glorious Mud ear-worm from Flanders and Swann and all their works. Lenny was back in the day a youngster - who many of us cheered him during that period of his illness. He's always been cheerful and grateful for the interaction ... and he was brilliant with my Ma - albeit we were only blogging compatriots ...

@ EC - He seemed to be making the best of his birthday - as he does with all things that come his way. I do hope Muddy Hippo helps your blood to cool - as I know you much prefer the cooler weather ... and for you 'down under' it's getting warm again.

@ Bazza - sadly he wasn't very well and over the years he's struggled on - I have huge admiration for him and his family ... he was only 11 or 12 when I first 'met' him via the blogging community ...

Thanks everyone for being here for Lenny - I've put a link to a WEP prompt he wrote about writing a letter ... it tells you more ... and he won the first prize for that entry that month (June 2022) - great to see you all - cheers Hilary

Wow, Lenny grew up!

Coincidentally, I was wondering about Lenny the other day. I'm glad he's still in touch with you.

Lenny must have been a phenomenon before I discovered your blog, Hilary, for I have no memory of him at all, delightful though he seems to have been. Thanks for the reminder of the Flanders and Swan brand of humour. They were unique and had the sort of talent seldom manifested today. Subtlety and wit were the hallmarks of their success, weren't they, and they appealed to the people I most like to hang out with. All the best - David

It's nice to hear he's still around.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Yam - he's had a tough life ... but has always been so cheerful and positive about life - he deserves to be remembered and he was so kind and caring to my mother - albeit via me ...

@ Alex - yes Lenny is growing up - as are we as we continue with our blogging ...

@ Janice - strange how we remember people ... especially blogging friends - talk about a coincidence ...

@ David - yes - he's been around in my life for a long time ... and he just related to me caring for my mother all those years - he was wonderful with his communication ... she was always thrilled to hear from him ...

@ Liz - yes ... it's good to keep in touch with him ... I always enjoy my emails with him ...

Cheers to you all - thank you for coming by for Lenny and his 24th birthday ... happy days for us all - Hilary

Hi, Hilary - Much of this post is a mystery to me as well. But the message of spreading kindness and remaining positive in our times of trouble came through loud and clear.

I must have arrived to your blog after Lennie. How nice to meet him!

Diane said...

A mystery post to me as well. I seem to have been following you forever but I certainly do not remember any posts about Lennie. I am though glad that you keep in touch with him, and I also wish him a Happy Birthday. Cheers Diane

Keith's Ramblings said...

He's clearly a very special person. Happy Birthday, Lennie. As for that song, there's nothing quite like it for cooling the blood!

Sandra Cox said...

Happy Birthday, Lennie. May it be special.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Janie - yes I realise many don't know him ... but I like to keep in touch with him ... and many are aware of Lenny. Thanks for popping in though ...

@ Donna - yes I realise mystery might be the order of the day for many commenters - but he's always been special to my mother and I for all these years ... but as you say the message comes through ...

@ Jacqui - yes ... he's been around a while, and now keeps in touch occasionally despite his troubles ...

@ Diane - as with the others ... it's 'funny' how I recently spotted that Damyanti and Dan knew each other through a writing group ... I've only just picked that up - about the same time of my early blogging 'career' ...

@ Keith - you're right ... he is a special lad, now young man ... I'm afraid 'cooling the blood' is a delightful line from their writing ...

@ Sandra - thank you ...

Thanks everyone - I expect Lenny will be over to read when he feels up to it ... great to see you all - cheers Hilary

Nilanjana Bose said...

Sending Lenny my best wishes! I remember that win at WEP - as you said, he is a very special young man. Hugs to you and to him.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Marja - oh thank you re: looking over at his blog - yes ... that's me - his GrandBlogMom!! It was amazing how we built up that special relationship together ... I guess as I was with my mother in her latter years and he'd just lost his mother - way too young ... we connected somehow. He is as you say special.

@ Sandra - I had to use Zdena didn't I - after all the A-Z on Aspects of British Cookery ... I needed some wine after another A-Z. Well we had storms over the weekend - and there were some sparkles ...

@ Nila - thanks - he'll be thrilled to hear from you. Exactly - he is a very special young man ... and I'd love to give him a hug or two, and to many bloggers!

Cheers and thanks for visiting - Hilary
