Re-introducing myself blogfest

This blog fest is being co-hosted by Elise Fallson (who did a Must-See VIDEO!), C.M. Brown, Mark Koopmans and Stephen Tremp’s Re-introduce Myself BlogFest,

The history girl – the girl with a penchant for snippets of information – the girl that’s delighted to be blogging ...

I had no idea where blogging would take me – to the realisation that having many subjects at one’s fingertips inspire many – mothers and uncles who were sick and elderly – then finding that niche that bloggers enjoy visiting ... and making so many friends ...

Wikipedia's taste the tree of knowledge photo
... has done wonders for a girl who struggled at school, didn’t go to university, loved her sport and learning about food, then appreciated peoples in other parts of the world through work and travel ...

 – yet found she does love learning, loves people, realised that interaction is the best form of therapy ... and knowledge opens so many opportunities and doors ... let the 3rd age begin!

Positive Letters is here to stay ... learning is fun!

... probably not as long as Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice that today celebrates 200 years as a printed novel ...

Happy Blogging one and all ...

Wow Hilary - - - I would not know the difference between some one who went to University or learned on their own. Your blog entries are better than a lot of lectures I attended in college. Such wealth of historical and cultural facts put together is not the work of any one who did not have any interaction with people.
I am glad though that I can tell young people that some one whose work I read a lot, says that interaction is the best form of therapy - - - Cheers !

Hi Hilary,

And your blogging embraces the ideals that we both cherish. The ideals of a sharing, caring blogging community. Indeed, blogging is world of discovery, of learning, of understanding within this great diversity. We understand we are all different, all equal.

Positive Letters, long may you share your wondrous articulation with us. Thank you, Hilary.

In kindness,

Gary

"The history girl – the girl with a penchant for snippets of information" This is exactly right, and it's what makes your blog unique! Happy continuing on with blogging!

Hi, Hilary!
Reading all these re-introductions today, it has astonished me how many bloggers admit to being a little shy in person -- but loving the interaction with other people through blogging.

I guess it makes sense. The extroverts are all out at parties and sporting events and chatting in the aisles of the grocery store. Me? I push my cart with my head down, then come home and get on the blogs ...

I loved your introduction, Hilary! Also checked out Elise's post.

I like your history posts!

Glad you're here to stay, and glad I discovered your blog. Who knows, perhaps all of our blogs will be archived and rediscovered in 200 years?

I love your posts Hilary and you are so right when you say, "interaction is the best form of therapy." And YES, learning is fun, it's something I try to teach my kids everyday. Thank you for sharing with us. (:

Glad to get to know you a bit better. Love your style. I was a bit late, but I added my much less interesting re-intro too.

Vallypee said...

Your blog teaches us so much too. I love coming here for all the fascinating pieces of information I pick up. I'm probably too late for this re-intro, and don't really follow what it is, but never mind. Keep on blogging, Hilary!!

Hilary, you have one of the most factual, interesting blogs that I know of. I love reading them especially as living in the UK I've heard about the subject you're writing about. Keep up the good work.

Yvonne.

I especially liked your post about Haggis, Whisky and Poetry. What is your favorite single malt Whiskey? And please include me in your next virtual party.

And you educate us in the process!

We should all be wishing that was our future--your novel celebrated 200 years on. How many of our current novels are keepers? I adore still teaching Pride and Prejudice each year. Yum.

You inspire me Hilary! The blogosphere would be so much poorer without your lust for history and education!

Hi everyone ... and I had a good education I think .. it just got very lost at exam times somehow, somewhere and I spent way too long playing in squash leagues.

I do love blogging and all it offers - if my mother hadn't been ill perhaps I wouldn't be blogging and might never have realised that coming of age with my historical (eclectic) catch-up ... and met all of you ...

Delighted to see you all - I'm behind, but I'll catch up shortly .. so pleased to share blogging with you .. Hilary

Nice to meet you, again.
It’s great that you use blogging as a tool for learning; it makes the whole exercise worth while.

There are many bloggers and many reasons for blogging; all equally valid, I would say. Let’s keep on keeping on until we run out of words.

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

Nice to re-meetcha, Hilary. It's hard to believe you struggled in school, because you obviously have a thirst for knowledge and a keen desire to share that knowledge with us. Whatever your reasons for blogging, I'm glad you're doing it, and glad we found each other in the blogosphere. Cheers!

Hi Hilary, you obviously didn't lose out not going to University. Your intelligence and thirst for knowledge shines through as well as your lovely warm and gregarious personality. Lovely introduction.

Hi Madeleine .. I've learnt so much since my mother was ill, and then from my uncle too .. now I continue on ... thanks so much - good to see you .. Hilary

Well, I love your blog because of your love of history. Have a great weekend and I'll try to catch up on your post soon.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Clarissa .. just got back here! I do love learning eclectic facets - and you all love those different takes on history .. so that's what goes into the blog .. they used to amuse my mother and my uncle so much ... helped to make them smile, and those snippets were enough for them to take in ... one at a time ... slow but sure ... it was the laugh and the smile, and the incredulity that mattered ... my heart used to melt when they joined in the thought process ... I knew i was helping - take their minds off things ... cheers Hilary
