Write ... Edit ... Publish ... Bloghop / IWSG hop: Thriller ...

Splurp, Burp, gulp, buccalling … bubble, bubbly boil arising from the primordial mud – cometh 'I' … the thrills and spills of life …

Spluttering into life ...

The Thriller

Earth, that blue planet we know today … had been bumped and bashed around until we found our rotating space in the unknown interstellar world …

Collage of Prokaryotic
Organisms

this 'I' or 'You' … or 'Us' … started life 3.5 – 3.8 billion years ago from these simple cells (prokaryotes) … Earth had been bumped and bashed into the blue planet of our space era today about 4.6 billion years ago …

Artist's Reconstruction
of Saccorhytus
Coronaris - probably no
more than one mm in size

During which over four billion of those years … cometh 'the human thriller' … watch those images... this was us, then us, then them, then what ….???

Paedomorphic salamander - an Axolotl

... we escaped the primordial soup as complex cells (eukaryotes), these organisms learnt to convert sunlight into energy …

Collage of Eukaryotes
then we had arthropods (ancestors of insects, arachnids and crustaceans); animals appeared; then fish and proto-amphibians: from these plants, insects proper, seeds, amphibians proper!, reptiles … slithery critters …

Did I really become this?

subsequently … the thriller thought about appearing …

Did I learn to copy myself?

he, she or it started the mammalian journey

Too late for us?

of human life …

Film makers in space

Homo erectus appeared … we changed too – why? … you call these things THRILLER – look at them … what a varied bunch …

Here we are ... still being stirred?

The Thriller 'I' spluttered out, apparently walked on water … before realising there is such a thing as land … then we grew things …

The THRILLER of life …

Life keeps rolling on

I hope you've followed 'our' thrilling development over 3.5 billion years …

Now what does the next – well let's give ourselves- at least half a billion more years on this earth …

Bucalling our very early way to breath

Tagline:

A bucalling blob slurping its way into the thrill of life itself … a time line of bubbling burping life …

Nothing else to be said ...

Are they coming ...

Smiling - and hoping we give this world and our species a lot more time.

This was fun!

What fun and educational read. Great use of the thriller prompt. You outdid yourself with the pics. "Are they coming?" I hope so. Maybe they'll be way smarter than us and help save this messed up world.

Hugs to my cool GBM :)

P.S. I don't see you listed for the WEP challenge.

A billion years is a very long time. Hopefully we make it that long.

"We escaped the primordial soup"? I know what you mean, but the evolutionary path was never a straight line, nor has it come to a finish. Many humans (and societies) returned to primordial soup, and some are still now :(

Hello Hilary! If you're wondering at the dearth of comments when you posted so early, it's because your entry wasn't linked. I'd remembered you telling me you were posting, so just now I checked the blogroll and there you were.

Thanks for the science lesson. Quite a different take on the creation of the world. Very entertaining! Would have hated to miss your thrilling entry!

Nilanjana Bose said...

You've taken the prompt in such a different direction. Very novel, very informative and enjoyable as all your posts are. Nice work! I just hope we, in our quest for 'thrills,' don't implode the planet we live on...

@ Yam – brilliant poem … thank you … the post was concocted from a frazzled point of view … I had some of the pics and crafted words around them … but life sciences came to the fore …

@ EC – well we certainly need to get rid of some people – there's too many selfish bods out there – some creating terror for no reason whatsoever … and I hope we can be sensible to keep our species with all our characteristic benefits to life …

@ John – thanks so much …

@ Lenny – great to see you … I've been 'collecting' the pics for a while – just had to draft some words … easy from the many life science articles I read … but delighted you enjoyed it.

Lenny yours was a brilliant read – I did so enjoy it … thanks for the prompt – I was 'rushed' … and forgot the link aspect – thankfully Denise added it for me: it's good to have friends looking out for one in this blogosphere … we're so lucky!

@ Liz – yes another billion years ia a looong time -but the earth will be around for another 4.5 billion years – til the sun dies out (we don't – it does!) …

I suspect our species won't last – but we've a while to go … life on earth will go on – plants, and organisms will adapt …

@ Hels – yes we did splutter ourselves out of that primordial soup – I quite understand that it wasn't straight forward (you could have had a few essays on the subject) … but only so much one can put in a blog post?!

Definitely not over yet as we're experiencing with all the changes occurring to our bodies … and sadly some just sink into their own primordial messy mud of a life – inflicting some appalling actions on us …

@ Denise – yes thank you for linking me up – I was rushed and had totally forgotten … so whoever did what – I'm always grateful. Lenny prompting me too … lucky girl I am. I have to find out what's happened with George and come over with some positive thoughts … they're here … I'm working my way in that direction!

I'm afraid I do think out of the block … but it entertains me – just glad it seems to entertain others …

@ Nila – Yes – always … I don't tend to conform – but really never quite know what is coming on next!

That's what I hope … but really who knows what thrills lie ahead for the human race … we don't help ourselves.

Thanks everyone – so glad you enjoyed the odd read … cheers Hilary

What an amazing and amusing story of evolution. Better than Darwin.

L.G. Keltner said...

Great take on the prompt! The development of life on this planet has certainly been a thrilling journey!

Joanne said...

a grand thrilling chuckle. Excellent. It's amusing that I read Nila's first - such a different take and hers so serious. Now I'm chuckling over the blobby spurt of human goo that became us. Are we moving forward or back at this juncture? Time will tell in the thrilling tales ahead. Good job!

Yolanda Renée said...

So interesting and curious of the different directions your thoughts go in when reading it. All those monsters we come up with to scare and thrill. If you think about we were worse and more, and all on the way to evolution. LOL
Loved it! Your take on the prompt is always a treat.

Happy Halloween, Hilary!

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Jacqui – yes … I thought you might enjoy it – am content to read your comment …

@ Olga – gosh to be compared to Darwin is a little overwhelming … just happy to know you enjoyed it …

@ Laura – thanks … the prompt was difficult for me – but that's what I thought about our life … easy for the images!

@ Joanne – very happy about the chuckle – yes hers (Nila) was very serious, I felt I could relate to it … this was a mega fast run through life!!

We're only such a microscopic blip in the time of life – but we can imagine so much now-a-days … man has found out lots – if man is right – who knows!

@ thanks Renee … I never know where I'm going with my thoughts – but I'd thought about it and had some images … just need to do the rush through 3.5 billion years of blobby life … and who knows where the hu-man will be in one thousand years, let alone more time.

Appreciate you enjoyed my take …

Happy Halloween to you all … it's too warm for Halloween at the moment!! Thanks for being here – cheers Hilary

Love the post but sadly Homo Sapiens is in the process of removing all other animal life from the world. Keep well, Cheers Diane

Very fun natural history lesson but sad to think our planet is nearer the end of its life span than the beginning. Humans are definitely the scariest thing to happen to it.

Good morning your Enchanting Hilaryness: We can count on you to come up with a new and amusing take on a familiar topic! When you pass on to the great void I hope you will consent to having your brain examined so that the pathways to quirkiness can be discovered, because I am quite sure that yours are unique, one of a kind, bestowed on no other, a mutant (of the best kind) perhaps. Having studied evolution, the origins of life on Earth, Darwinian theory, spent happy hours with Wallace, pondered the thoughts of Hawking, been enlightened by the concept of Gaia, thrilled to Dawkins' brilliant mind, I see clearly that I need to approach this whole topic from a different perspective. Thank you Professor Melton-Butcher. Ever your devoted student - David

Love this!
Our species often acts like a toddler - throwing tantrums and destroying. Time to grow up!

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Diane - thanks for coming over ... yes homo sapiens isn't being very kind or thoughtful to this world: you say it wisely ...

@ Nick - thanks - well I think 4.5 billion years to go is long enough ... and most certainly for us mortal souls today - but your thoughts on the human race being the scariest thing that's developed to date is regrettably so true - I hope we can bring ourselves back to some sensible thinking and actions ...

@ David - delighted with your comment and associated thoughts - making me feel very happy and pleased with myself! The first time I've ever been called a professor of anything! I suspect a professor only of a Hilary brain coming from a late developer ... heaven help anyone if the trait catches on!! Appreciate your thoughts and you being here being so supportive ...

@ Jemi - many thanks - oh gosh that's a good reference ... we are so stooopid aren't we ... please tell our politicians?! Tomorrow is another day I'm told.

Thanks everyone - always happy to see you here with your thoughts - cheers Hilary

Fun. I like the evolution journey. Yes, thrilling, indeed.

Love the opening for the evolving thriller:)
Have a spooktacular Sunday:) Or what's left of it on your end;)

Pat Garcia said...

Hi Hilary,
I think you're an anthropologist. The timeline of the human species says a lot about evolution. If this is so, then we are living out the thriller of our lives.
Great job.

@ Mary - thank you ... yes it is a thrilling ride ...

@ Sandra - thank you ... my bubbling, blurby, Splurp, Burp, gulp, buccalling … bubble, bubbly boil arising from the primordial mud - was a fun creative write up! Well, last night was full of thunder and lightning ... lots of rain too ... I just watched!

@ Pat - thanks ... now an anthropologist - sadly a plagiarising one ... but it was fun to work through ... and I'm happy you enjoyed the post and its story ..

Thanks to the three of you - cheers Hilary

Half a billion? Some days I wonder if we'll make it to Christmas. I love the look in the mirror, Hilary. Scientists love using big words, but slither and burp work well for me. I hope you're having a nice week.

I loved this post, learnt so many things, as usual. How fascinating is nature?!

Debbie D. said...

Such a fun and inventive post, Hilary! ☺ And, of course, as always, you offer that educational aspect. Love it!

Sandra Cox said...

ALSO loved 'that blue planet' sentence:)
Cheers,

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Bernadette - thank you ... glad you enjoyed the ride across our historical era ...

@ Dan - well - I could agree ... but would prefer to be optimistic! Thank you - there's not much word stretch with a WEP story - so a gentle rattle across the 'known time' ... I'm happy you enjoyed the slither and burp approach ...

@ Damyanti - nature is quite extraordinary, and how clever over time we have become ... if only we could look after nature better ...

@ Debbie - great to see you - am happy you enjoyed it - especially as I managed to add in some educational snippets as we've developed ...

@ Sandra - yes our blue planet has been absorbed by so many of us ... the blue dot that we are ...

Cheers to one and all from a warm gloomy day - Hilary

Just want to say I enjoyed reading this burst of optimism, fantastic images (and sounds), all leading to another billion years or so. We can still hope. Keep writing!
