Happy New Year 2026 …

I still can't quite believe … 2026 … where did that come from … I was only seven 'a few years ago'!!

An 1880s
New Year salutation
Still onward and upwards … 2025's health challenges have to be put back in their place in 2026 … somehow – we shall see … life continues and is interesting – albeit quieter as the years tick by … thankfully 'you encouraging lot' are here … cheering me/ us all on …

Gerrard Winstanley's quote from 1649 seemed to ring rather too true today – from nearly five hundred years ago …

"Was the earth made

to preserve a few

covetous, proud

men to live at ease;

or was it made to

preserve all her

children?”

Gerrard Winstanley (1609 – 1676) – Political Philosopher amongst his other talents and ideals … I call upon us all to ...

Think,

read, and seriously ponder between the lines,

concentrate on the quieter words,

no need for division … I like marmite – I know many don't – but I'll be happy for you with your vegemite!!

2025 was not the easiest of years for most people in this world … 2026 doesn't portend well …

Let's do all we can to help others in all ways … so many far worse off than we are … 'doing good does us good' …

Hear! Hear! I wish you lots of ease in 2026, Hilary, that health stabilises, outings uplift, readings edify, researches satisfy... and that there is a good dollop of joy along the way! YAM xx

Thanks for this wonderfully insightful comment, Hilary. I know that 2025 was not your best year and I can only hope that 2026 is much better. If there is one certainty that you can count on, it is that your blogging friends will be here to support and encourage in any way that we can. With my best wishes always - David xo

That quote is so profound. We've come full circle. Happy 2026, Hils. May it be a good year.

I like that quote. We really haven’t given it a final answer in hundreds of years, have we, even though to most people the correct answer is obvious. As for thinking you were 7 a few years ago, I’m the same. I can never quite believe they’ve let me leave school and function as an adult. Hope your heath improves in 2026 and that it’s a good year in all other ways too.

I so agree, Hillary. The challenges remain and I hope that humanity as a whole can deal with them. Wishing you everything that’s good 2026, whatever the world does! Xx

@ Yam - hear, hear ... yes - thank you, I wish lots of ease to me too. I'm sure things will pan out over the year - just could do with the health improving ... but I'll perk up and get back to normal blogging ...

@ John - thank you ... yes we'll all muddle along won't we ... I definitely will ...

@ Rosey - you're right doing good, does us all good - thanks for your thoughts ...

@ David - great to see you - I found the Winstanley quote relatively recently and thought - oh yes a good one for the start of 2026 ... incredible what we learn about the old days - so relative to today ... sad, but true. Thank you - I really appreciate everyone's support over the years ... all the best to you and Miriam ...

@ Sandra - it was a bit of a shock to find the Winstanley quote ... as you say so profound. 500 years on ... we seem to be back in the medieval era, living in the 21st century ...

@ Anabel - thank you ... the quote appealed to me. Certainly I'm sure most people have the correct answer ... though due to the screamers we daren't raise our thoughts. When I was 7, I suspect it was more like when I was 12 or 13 I thought ahead ... if only I new then what I know now ... life!! Thank you re my health - it's a nuisance ...

@ Val - thank you ... you too - we all need as much help as we can get or give particularly as 2025 moves across to 2026 ... why do we have to kill/maim/hurt each other?

Thanks everyone I really appreciate your support ... cheers to us all - Hilary

Wow - you nailed it with that verse. Much to ponder for the coming year. Good health to you and everyone. Good weather is needed for 2026 - too many disasters. Peace - that ever elusive word.
More Snoopy! As you commented on my post, he brings a joy.
Take care, my friend. Let's all smile.

Yeah, 2025 was a hard year. May 2026 be a much gentler one.

2025 was CERTAINLY not the easiest of years for most people in this world - endless wars, famine, deathly fires, fatal racism etc.
But now I have to focus on local (family and friends) and national pain more closely. My beautiful son unexpectedly died a year ago, then the hideous massacre at Bondi Beach terrified people in our normal summer and now my youngest brother died a couple of weeks ago :(

It is VERY difficult to be positive :(

@ Joanne - it was a surprising find which I held onto ... glad I did - it's so today - almost unbelievable. Sadly we need to live through the gloom of many to get to the other side ... it's frustrating to say the least. Health is an issue for many - mine I hope improves. We're about to enter a cold snap - mind you normal for us in the UK. Global Peace - those elusive words ... Peace for each us can be had locally, thankfully. More snoopy - exactly - he makes me laugh and thus brings joy. Thanks ...

@ Janie - you're so right we have to hang in there for 2026 ...

@ Liz - I sincerely hope 2026 will be gentler and I'll be happy if we're proved right ...

@ Holly - I couldn't agree more ... healthy, happy and kinder for the year ahead - thanks ...

@ Hels - too much negative around, but however much there is - there's a sprig of hope too ... we need that for everyone in our lives and in the ambit around us.

Thanks everyone - take care ... we all know what we need for 2026 ... cheers Hilary

Great quote, Hilary, thank you. How refreshing to read that things were less civilized 500 years ago than they are today. Nowadays, somewhere in the peace-loving USA, a peace-loving American patriot presses a button, and shortly afterward, a wedding party is blown up in Afghanistan or elsewhere, without an American hero getting a finger dirty.
Same goes for Russian patriots.
Happy New Year!

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

@ Elizabeth - yes ...and to you too - we need a happy healthy year ... well I do and I know many others will too!

@ Sean - glad you appreciated the quote - struck me as an amazing find. Yes - last night/early morning the point was proved: Venezuela ... 'American hero'??? or Russian ones for that matter. It's all a bit of a shock in the 21st century ... I sure hope we can have a blessed New Year ... good to see you ...

Cheers to you both - Hilary

"I used to be someone!" Yep, i like that. We all had hopes, dreams, potential of a life plan. I'm not so sure I liked 2025, but it wasn't the worst year either. Life goes on. I hope all your health issues resolve themselves into something manageable, and the new year treats you satisfactorily, if not very well. Thanks for the blog visit Hilary.

@ Jess - time does flieth doesn't it!! Small kindnesses help everyone - that is for sure ...

@ Donna - great to see you after this time. For me personally I suspect 2025 has been the most difficult ... but you're right probably not the worst. I sure anticipate the New Year treats us all peacefully and gives us hope for 2026 ...

Thanks so much for visiting everyone - I'll be seeing you all soon over at your place. Cheers and all the best for 2026 - Hilary

PS. Referencing one of your responses: We do seem to be reliving the medieval era, especially over here.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Sandra - thanks for these ... I'm alive!! That's what I was inferring to re my medieval era notation ... not an easy era to be a part of. Cheers and all the best for 2026 - Hilary

i can't believe it's 2026 either! On my last four journal entries, I wrote 2025! haha It will take me a minute to change my brain.

From my beliefs, the world was made to accommodate all people. 'doing good does us good' is so meaningful. It works!

Hi Teresa - great to see you ... I know 2026 - who'd have thought it all those years ago. I usually struggle with the year change - perhaps I haven't done enough of them yet to muddle myself! You're right about the world being here for us all ... and helping each other ... making sure we're all safe ... cheers Hilary
