I'm off to see what happens on Wednesday … otherwise all things continue as usual … and I positively assume the medics and I will be on our way to a 'resolvement' …
Dressed to impress by the
seaside, in East Sussex
Here on the coast we haven't had the best Easter weather … cool, misty, foggy days … but it is a little warmer …
Those Crumbling Cliffs are still very dangerous – so it's been decided to cancel all coaches with their passengers to the Beachy Head area … too worrying for the authorities with those cracking cliffs …
Life is interesting in the country … we heard snuffling and bonking hedgehogs on the Beeb (BBC) … the presenter decided the male was making the bonking noise – only to be duly informed by a listener … that it was actually the female: Who Knew?!
That crack will plummet a huge
chunk of chalk onto the 'beach' below
(dangerous for those above and those below)
and definitely not for burrowing hedgehogs
My sister-in-law says she's got two of those mammals in their garden … and so is delighted … there are plenty of nooks and crannies for them to burrow into and hide away from the cat, the dog … giving them time to bonk away …
Then there were plenty of Easter Eggs some filling Sussex Trugs – we had a salmon lunch a la famille and friends … tulips and daffodils are filling our shops …A Sussex Trug with Easter eggs
and tulips
Now this morning, Easter Monday, the bells rang out signalling the death of Pope Francis … next, after the funeral, the Vatican convenes a Papal Conclave to select the next Pope …SouthDown coaches - a commercial truck,
converted into an each local Sussex 'bus'
Life in all ways goes on … wishing you a peaceful Spring or Autumn depending where you live …

I hope Wednesday will bring some light and comfort to you in your uncertain health at present.
I was sorry to hear that Pope Francis had died. He was a forward-looking man.

Here's to positive news coming your way... health matters can be a drag! Yeah, spring is being spring - and April - up this way. Less showers, more car wash.
RIP Fr Francis... YAM xx
I have just commented on your last post. I hope that you get some answers. I have only ever seen two hedgehogs in France, but I gather they are around! Easter here was a bit of a wash out with just under 90mm of rain, Thankfully we spent Sunday eating and drinking with friends so we did not worry too much about getting wet other than to leave the car and return to it!
I hope all is well, be kind to yourself, take it easy, cheers Diane
I am very pleased the hedgehogs can find nooks and crannies to bonk each other in peace. But aren't hedgehogs covered in spikes? Even if the male is as sexy as hedgehogs get, who wants to be spiked?
Here's hoping your health issues will be resolved soon, Hilary! Tulips and daffodils are so lovely this time of year. It was a bit of shock about the Pope's passing, especially since he overcame the double pneumonia and seemed to be on the mend. He was more progressive than many before him and generally well-liked, I think.
@ Janice - well ... it'll be interesting to find out why - I feel ok, well I could do with some overnight sleep, which is constantly interrupted ... so I get some but constantly interrupted. Yes - the Pope departing was somewhat of a surprise ... bearing in mind that he'd got through the last few weeks ...
@ Yam - oh yes please more positive news on Wednesday for me. Spring is Spring as you say ... some friends have just been up to Edinburgh for a wedding and spent a couple of days - saying that the weather was fantastic - compared to us down here ...
@ Diane - thanks for your comment on the first Update ... and if I get fixed I'll be happy and then perhaps we can look for answers that'll help. Oooh ... we haven't had that much rain here in the south-east. I'm glad you were able to enjoy Sunday with friends eating and drinking without worrying too much about your health. You too take care and we'll catch up soon ...
@ Hels - I'm sure the hedgehogs have a way of 'doing it' ...
@ Debbie - thanks ... I hope Wednesday will throw some answers out for me. It is a gorgeous time of year isn't it ... warmer and giving us some lovely days. The Pope dying was I suppose to be expected fairly soon ... yet as you say a shock ...
Cheers to you all, keep well and happy - thanks for commenting - Hilary
I can see those cliffs being dangerous. Good luck on Wednesday. May it all go as you wish.
Female hedgehogs bonk - who knew?
Pass on getting anywhere near those cliffs.
Best of luck on Wednesday! Hoping for positive outcomes.
@ Liz - yes ... and oddly they've had a huge coastal collapse on the Isle of Wight ... but thanks re the wish ...
@ Alex - yes the females are making the noise ... we do know now don't we! Yes do not go near the edge ... I hope no-one will decide to look over the edge ...
@ Anabel - thanks so much ...
Thanks for your thoughts - cheers Hilary
I really, really hope you do get a resolvement. Glad that you enjoyed Easter en famille despite the weather.
Female hedge pigs make the noise? Live and learn.
I haven't been keeping up with blogs recently, so missed youre earlier post. So sorry to hear you're not well and I hope they get to the bottom of the problem.
We used to have hedgehogs in our garden back in Guernsey. Cute critters.
Beachy Head is such a gorgeous spot. It is a shame that people get so very close to the edge! I can understand them cancelling the coaches there. I have fond memories of seeing the gardeners working on those beautiful Carpet Gardens at the seafront in Eastbourne and I noticed the "trugs" that they used! I had never heard of them before but now practical and perfect they are! Sigh, I miss England!!
Those crumbling cliffs are amazing.
@ EC - I'm really fine ... something happened which precipitated a decision needing to be made ... I hope tomorrow will happen positively, as I expect it will do. I know: the female hedgehogs making the bonking noise ... the poor old male was circling too much to add noise to his closure! As you say - live and learn ...
@ Ian - great to see you here ... and I hope you've been enjoying life without too much blog time ... I'm sure tomorrow will bring me a resolution. I noted that the Channel Islands appear to have good populations of hedgehogs ... so great to know your family had them in Guernsey ... as you say 'cute critters' ... spiny too!
@ Kay - I know you love Eastbourne ... it's been cold here recently with an east wind ... and yes our carpet gardens are beautiful. Trugs are under threat ... but that's the challenge with traditional skills and crafts being passed down and needing to be preserved for the future.
@ Jacqui - those crumbling cliffs are challenging and definitely not worth getting too close to ...
Thanks to you four for your wishes ... tomorrow will be fine: I'm sure! Cheers Hilary
I hope that you keep getting better, Hilary. And don’t go too close to the edge of those cliffs - definitely potentially not good for your health! People are foolish aren’t they? Coastal erosion is a huge problem in some areas yet foolhardy teens, especially males trying to impress females, ignore warnings to prove their misguided sense of manhood. Hedgehogs are without doubt among the cutest animals ever evolved. When we were last in England Miriam fell in love with them and stayed up at night to see them in Richard Pegler’s back yard. Porcupines here have their charm, but are no threat to hedgehogs for first place in the cuteness parade! All the best - David
Thanks David- tomorrow will answer a few questions and I hope and expect to be more positive and feeling easier. Nope - I won't go near those cliffs ... much too dangerous.
That's great you and Miriam saw hedgehogs when you were over here spending time with Richard Pegler ... I saw them as a child, but in recent years, not living with a garden, I don't get to spend time looking. I've never seen a porcupine ... but I rather wish I had done ... and yes cute is a good word for our hedgehogs. Cheers to you both - Hilary
Good luck on Wednesday. Hugs.

Sounds like a lovely Easter, Hils. Wishing you good news Wednesday, Cheers,
Thanks Rue and Sandra ... good to see you both - cheers Hilary
So often we see pictures in newspapers of people at the cliff edge at Birling Gap, some sitting with their legs dangling over the edge, others holding small children. I like the little bus, when I was a youngster I was a member of the Southdown Enthusiast Club - buses arn't what they used to be! Hopefully things are improving for you. The only way is up!
I hate to hear those cliffs are crumbling.
@ Keith - I know it's terrifying ... children not under control as they rush around near the edge, dogs following them ... and then the crowds - ghastly too.
What fun to find out you were a member of the Southdown Enthusiast Club - I selected a good pic for you! and yes buses aint' what they used to be. Yesterday was both good and not successful - the good being the best part ... being in the right place and the medics getting 'to grips with me' ... thanks for asking ...
@ Sandra - oh our lands (continents) are always changing ... the Isle of Wight had a huge cliff fall recently - and this one at Beachy Head will go soon ...
Cheers to you both - Hilary
Hope your answers are workable and that you are on the mend. More sunshine and bright flowers always helps too (in my non-medical opinion).
See the cliff pic - I had to chuckle. When we were in Mexico, out at some ruins - they had the thinnest string possible strung along the edge. No waivers to sign - you were on your own!
Take care!
Thanks Joanne - didn't quite work out ... but we can have another go in a week or two. Also as you note ... it's Spring like now - warmer, not so much easterly wind, with lots of blossoms - blissful.
Oh gosh - I can imagine ... thin string, which many probably couldn't see ... but at least the ruins probably weren't crumbling like this lot ... yes I'll take care ... I'll stay at sea level!
Thanks for coming by - cheers Hilary
